Signal Processing Software Engineer

We design, develop and manufacture devices for people security screening, using Terahertz imaging technology. Our customers include the UK and US Governments, Tesco, Boots and JD Sports.  From our origins in the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory we have successfully commercialized $50 million of research investment and today our systems are operational in 20 countries around the world.

The Role

Working as part of a small team you will be undertaking projects to develop new capabilities in our systems. You will receive direction and guidance but will be expected to take ownership of your projects and the day-to-day organisation of your own activities, coordinating with others where required.

You will typically be required to lead your projects through a lifecycle of requirements capture, design, development, integration, and test, possibly with elements of agile prototyping and experimentation.

The role involves not just coding but also the design and definition of the system element that you are developing and its interfaces to the wider system. Often this is as part of a signal processing chain that converts raw sensor output to actionable system output.  Our signal processing is based on a combination of classical and machine-learning approaches.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a small team at the start of a new phase of product development and to develop your skills and level of responsibility rapidly.

You will be based at our offices in Milton Park, Oxfordshire. There may be the opportunity for remote working on some days. Standard hours are 37.5 per week and you will be entitled to 25 days of holiday per year in addition to bank holidays.

About you

You must have:

  • A 1st Class degree in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Physics or similar.
  • Excellent English and an ability to write clear and well-structured documents
  • A systematic and analytical approach to problem-solving
  • A solid grounding in either C/C++ or Python
  • Good mathematical skills
  • The ability to manage your own activities to achieve goals and to work with others in a team
  • A structured and rigorous approach to your work
  • A practical and common-sense approach to tackling engineering problems and making things work
  • The ability to obtain UK security clearance

A Masters or other higher-level qualification with a significant component in signal processing, image processing, computer vision or machine learning would be beneficial.

Knowledge and experience in any of the following would be beneficial:

  • Software development in C, C++ and Python
  • Source code management using Git
  • Software development on Windows 10 and Linux
  • Embedded Software development for System-on-Chip devices including Zynq
  • Signal Processing, Image Processing and Computer Vision
  • Machine Learning
  • Radiometry



  • Salary £27k – £35k pa depending upon experience

Assembly Operator

Salary: Dependant on age and experience 

Based: Milton Park, Didcot, Oxfordshire

About Thruvision

Thruvision is a proven people-screening technology which, following significant testing by the US Government’s Transportation Security Administration, is now approved for operational use. Using proven and patented passive terahertz sensing technology, Thruvision allows security guards to see weapons, explosives and contraband hidden under peoples clothing at distances of up to 10m. Detecting non-metallic, as well as metallic items, Thruvision allows fast, safe and respectful people security screening.

The Role

With the company now starting to grow strongly, we are looking to recruit an Assembly Operator to work in our Didcot engineering facility.

Required Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate experience in the following:

  • Assembly of products, as scheduled by the Supervisor, to the required standards and timescales.
  • Following build notes
  • Reporting faults to line manager
  • Proactively suggest manufacturing and process changes to support continuous improvement.
  • Ensure production requirements are met in a timely fashion and to expected quality.
  • Identify any new processes and equipment required that could improve yields, quality and performance
  • Ensure appropriate handling of sensitive electronic products during the assembly process

Key attributes

The ideal candidate will have the following key attributes:

  • Possess excellent hand-eye coordination, be dextrous at using hand tools and have an eye for detail
  • Soldering skills
  • Experience in using hand tools
  • Experience using basic multi-meters for fault finding
  • Experience using power supplies, test equipment etc
  • Experience in an ESD environment would be a bonus
  • A keen eye for detail to produce repeatable quality
  • Experience working in a cleanroom manufacturing environment
  • Ability to deliver against detailed written instructions
  • Possess a keen appetite to learn and demonstrate excellent patience when working with intricate components
  • Have good written and verbal communication skills
  • Be able to work as a member of a close-knit team.
  • Operate proactively and effectively in a team environment
  • Strong proactive day to day communication with the senior team.
