A Sunday Times investigation found that retailers are being hit by significant employee theft problems which is costing them an estimated £3 billion a year.
This investigation, which built on our own research published with Retail Economics in November 2023, includes evidence from the trials of many former employees being prosecuted.
Emmeline Taylor, a professor at City, University of London, and the host of Retail Crime Uncovered said “the existence of high levels of employee theft has become the elephant in the room” for UK retail.
