Thruvision launches a revolutionary new WalkTHRU solution, providing the capability to screen 100% of employees safely and respectfully, for all types of hidden items.
The problem
Distribution centres typically screen employees on a ‘randomised’ basis, where a percentage of employees leaving a distribution centre are selected at random for screening, with perhaps only 10 to 15% of each shift being selected. Clearly this presents an opportunity for corrupt employees, who may be working together in groups, to remove valuable merchandise from a distribution centre. For a 400-strong shift, as many as 360 employees could be leaving without being checked…
Screening all employees as they exit the facility at the end of a shift using established screening methods such as a hand-held metal detection ‘wand’ has typically presented a significant, even impossible, challenge due to the need to complete screening activities within specified timeframes.
The solution
Thruvision “WalkTHRU” tips the balance firmly in favour of Security Staff.
A screening lane equipped with two Thruvision cameras – one front, and one rear – can screen employees as they walk through the lane, without the need for them to stop, pose or turn. Capable of screening up to 2,400 people-per-hour, 400 employees can be screened in just 10-minutes.
Furthermore, whereas typical screening methods tend to detect metal items only, Thruvision cameras can detect all types of items found in distribution centre inventories, including electronics, cosmetics, alcohol, and foodstuffs.
AI-based “DynamicDetection” guard assistance software also helps to ensure that security personnel remain focused on the primary objective of detecting concealed merchandise, rather than managing long queues of employees eager to go home at the end of a long and busy shift.
Proven, award-winning capability
Thruvision WalkTHRU has already been deployed at multiple locations by leading UK-based retailer Next, and as a result picked up the coveted award for Most Innovative Physical Retail Risk Management Solution at the 2022 Fraud Awards.
Another leading globally recognised 3PL has also deployed the solution at a site in the UK, and intends to equip further sites in the near future.
Safe and respectful
Thruvision WalkTHRU also maintains 100% safety and respect for your staff:
- Thruvision emits no radiation or other energy, so can be used to screen employees over-and-over again.
- Security Staff are enabled to maintain a safe and respectful distance from those being screened, which mitigates both the risk of virus transmission and the potential for accusations of improper physical contact.
- Thruvision WalkTHRU imagery does not enable the determination of age, ethnicity or gender.
Flexibility
The WalkTHRU solution can be deployed in a number of different ways to suit your operational environment, and the level of integration that your business requires.
Accomodation of a Thruvision WalkTHRU lane requires a minimum area of approximately 8 x 2 m (26 x 6.5 ft), depending on operational procedures and configuration.
Next required a seamlessly integrated solution and created bespoke camera enclosures at each end of the screening lane.
If the disruption of building work is not an option, cameras can also be mounted on a lightweight aluminium ‘lighting’ gantry, which can be installed quickly and requires no permanent building works to be carried out.
WalkTHRU can also be deployed using Thruvision’s ‘Mobile Operator Station’ support solutions, if even more flexibility is required.
