Thruvision People-Screening Technology Selected by Los Angeles World Airports for Aviation Screening
LAWA Joins the Growing Roster of Premier US Airport Systems to Utilize Thruvision Technology
Ashburn, VA. – May 23, 2019 — Thruvision, the leading provider of next-generation people-screening solutions, today announced it has been selected by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) to provide a critical layer of security for employee screening. With this announcement, LAWA joins the ranks of premier airport systems in the U.S. and around the world that have chosen Thruvision’s safe, respectful, effective technology to augment its screening program and proactively address potential issues that could arise.
Thruvision’s proven passive terahertz technology reveals items hidden under outerwear and clothing.
The technology can detect any concealed item – metallic or non-metallic; it can screen up to 2000 individuals per hour; it is mobile and can be deployed on an as-needed basis; and cannot see any anatomical detail.
“LAWA is addressing the safety and security needs of its airports without impeding the speed of commerce,” said Kevin Gramer, Vice President of Thruvision, Americas. “
By choosing Thruvision technology, LAWA further demonstrates its leadership and provides guidance for best practices in aviation screening to the industry. Emerging and evolving threats in airport environments are well-documented and Thruvision is proud to play a part in securing U.S. airports.”
There are more than 4 billion passengers moving through global airports annually and according to the Wall Street Journal, there are “an estimated 950,000 employees of airlines, airports, vendors, concessionaires and regulators that have access to secure areas” in U.S. airports alone.
Thruvision technology measures the thermal energy emitted by the human body, showing objects that block that energy as dark spots on the body’s thermal outline, an image often termed the “green ghost”. Unlike other high power stand-off body scanners, Thruvision is completely safe and respectful, and as a passive technology, does not require certification to prove it does not cause radio interference with other safety critical systems.
